Hover Power for Polar Trip

Diss Express, February 8th, by Catherine Morris

“A trip to the North Pole last year did not satisfy the appetite of adventurer Alex Henney, so he has decided to go back – by hovercraft.

Mr Henney, who lives in Ashfield, walked to the pole last year as part of Team Polar Horizon, which finished second in the 350-mile race.


He now plans to complete the first-ever trip to the remote region in a hovercraft next April, with friend Simon Marshall.”

“In April 2009 Simon Marshall and Alex Henney will attempt to become the first people in history to travel to one of the world’s poles by hovercraft.


The route will be from Resolute Bay, Cornwallis Island in Nunavut, Canada to the last certified position of the Magnetic North Pole in sea ice close to Deer Bay, Ellef Rignes Island. The route in a straight line is approximately 320 nautical miles but given the likely terrain.....”
